Inmate death prompts investigation at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles

Homicide detectives responded to Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail Tuesday morning to investigate the death of a male inmate, authorities said.
The incident was reported at the jail located on 441 Bauchet St. shortly after 5 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
No details have been released about how or where in the facility the inmate died.
“Detectives are continuing their investigation, and the cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office,” the sheriff’s department said.

Authorities have not identified the inmate, saying his name will not be released until next of kin is notified.
“Any loss of life is tragic, especially those who are within our custody and care,” the Sheriff’s Department said. “Our highest priority is the safety and security of our inmate population, and we will ensure we continue to provide a constitutional level of care to all individuals housed within our jail facilities.”
